7 Day Rwanda Primates Safari Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Nyungwe Forest
Our tour guide will pick you up from either the airport or hotel, and hit the road to Nyungwe forest national park. Dinner and Overnight stay at Nyungwe Forst Lodge ( Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range), Gisakura Guest House (Basic).

Day 2: Chimps Tracking – Canopy walk/nature walk/birding
Start off your day with breakfast and proceed for trekking the chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest. The activity this can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on where the chimpanzees are. You will also see other primates like the Rwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey. In the afternoon, you go for a forest canopy walk Dinner and overnight at your hotel of Day 1

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Morning breakfast followed by an 8hrs drive to Volcanoes National Park, through fantastic views following the shores of Lake Kivu. Have enroute lunch & stopovers for photographing, dinner & overnight at Kinigi guest house / La Palme hotel / La bamboo gorilla lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking – Tour the Twin Lakes
After your breakfast in the morning, assemble at the park headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing at Parc National de Volcans for mountain gorilla tracking. Time permitting, enjoy a nature walk to the twin lakes of Burera & Ruhondo or take a walk to nearby cultural villages for entertainment in Kinyarwanda culture. In the afternoon if your up for it head out for a tour the twin lake of Burera & Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at your lodge

Day 5: Golden Monkeys Tracking / Dian Fossey Grave Hike – Ibyiwacu Cultural Tour
Wake up to breakfast served at your hotel and proceed to the Kinigi park headquarters for breifing the Golden Monkey tracking, after which embark on the tracking. After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation and later a community walk. Or you can opt to Hike to the Karisoke Gorilla Research Centre which Dian Fossey, the famous primatologist set up.

Day 6: Transfer Lake Kivu for Boat Ride – Tour Nyamurundi Island
Early breakfast at the lodge and later transfer to Lake Kivu. This is the largest fresh water lake offering tourists a relaxing environment while in Rwanda. You will have a boat ride along lake Kivu and a visit the the Nyamirundi island. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena hotel (Luxury)/ Palm gardens resort (Deluxe)/ Paradise marahide (Budget)

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali for city Tour – Departure
Have breakfast at the lodge and later drive back to Kigali for a grand city tour. Expect to tour historical places like the genocide memorial site, the national museum. Later have lunch and drop off at either your hotel or the airport.
