The name Karisimbi is located translated as “Amasimbi” which locally translates to the snow seen at the summit of the mountain. The slopes of the volcano are shelter to the endangered primates especially the Karisimbi gorilla family, which lucky travelers can meet up on their hiking trail to the summit. The Volcano is ranked the 11th tallest in Africa and the highest in the Virunga Conservation Area. The summit of Mt Karisimbi offers you great views of other Virunga Volcanoes and other attractions in Rwanda and other neighboring countries. Physical fitness is key for anyone visiting to hike this iconic volcano. The hiking time to the summit of Mt Karisimbi is roughly 6-7 hours depending on the physical fitness of the traveler and the speed of the slowest person in the group. You spend a night on the slopes, ascend to the summit in the next morning and then descend. The trip starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda

Day 1: Pick up, transfer to Volcanoes Park & Hiking
Your pick up location will depends on where you are in Kigali. In the early morning, your driver guide will pick you up from the airport or your hotel and transfer to Volcanoes National Park. Gather at the park head quarters in Kinigi for a pre hiking briefing on the do and don’ts of Mt Karisimbi Hiking. Thereafter transfer to the hiking starting pint at the base of Mt Karisimbi together with your ranger guide and porters. The hiking adventure commenced via different vegetation zones as you ascend. It takes roughly 7 hours to the first stop (3,700) meters where you will spend an overnight in a tent. Spend an overnight in a camp as you prepare for the next day’s final adventure
Day 2: Reach the Summit, Descend and drive back to Kigali
Rise up very early and start up an hour’s steep and more strenuous hike to the summit of the iconic volcano! Congratulations, you are finally you are at the top of the tallest volcano. Enjoy the magical sunrise as the fog clears off, take photos and enjoy beautiful sceneries of the beautiful Rwanda, Virunga Volcanoes, tea plantations, rolling hills and national parks. Having spend enough time, descend to meet up your driver guide at the base of the mountain. Drive back to Kigali and connect with your return flight.
