Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park
Early today, our professional driver guide will pick you from Entebbe airport or your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe and transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest M National park. The 8-10 hours drive will offer you the best pre gorilla trekking experience with beautiful scenic views of local farms, rolling hills, homesteads, banana plantations, cattle farms and an encounter with local people along the way. You will first stop at the equator for photography and refreshment. Get back into the vehicles and proceed to Mbarara city for lunch break. Do not miss out o buying road side foods, Rolex, chapatis, roasted maize, muchoma and fresh fruits sold all over along the way. On reaching Bwindi Forest, you will witness a different altitude, beautiful kigezi highlands and fresh air free from pollution. Overnight stay at your favorite lodge in the middle of the forest
Day 2: Gorilla trekking & optional community tour
This whole day is dedicated to mountain gorilla trekking! Enjoy your spiced early morning breakfast and head off to the respective park head quarters where you will be registered and briefed on what to do and not to do with the gorillas. Together with other 7 travelers if present, you will be assigned a gorilla family to visit. Armed rangers will escort you through the jungle in search for these endangered primates. You also need a porter to help you carry your bag to and from seeing the gorillas. Porters are local people hired at between $10 to $15 to carry your bags throughout the trek. Trekking through this jungle forest offer you chance to meet other wild animals, birds, and ground insects, which live, in this forest. After meeting the gorillas, you will spend an hour with them. See how mums breastfeed the little babies while the Silverback gorilla keeps his brown eyes wide open to ensure safety of all his family members. Keep calm and utilize this hour as possible as you can. Take photos for memories and enjoy this lifetime experience. You can do an optional community visit in the evening if time allows.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Mburo & Afternoon boat cruise
Wakeup very early, have breakfast and depart Bwindi Forest to Lake Mburo National Park. The morning drive through kigezi highlands and Ankole plains is a sweet feeling you will enjoy. Arrive in late morning, refresh and have lunch at your desired lodge in Lake Mburo National Park. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise at Lake Mburo whose shores shelter a variety of birds and water animals. Some of the birds to see on the shores of Lake Mburo include Saddle billed stork, African wattled lapwing, Black bellied bustard, Greater painted snipe, Hairy breasted barbet, Shoebill, Mosque Swallow, African finfoot and Yellow Rumped Tinker bird among others. More so, look out for water animals like crocodiles and hippos seen resting lazily. A boat cruise offer you spectacular views of the beautiful park, wild animals and fishing communities
Day 4: Game Viewing & departure
Very early in the morning, rise up and go for game viewing in the savannahs of Lake Mburo National park. Game drives offer you excellent views of various wild animals hunting, grazing and browsing before sunset. Expect to see animals such as Buffalos, Hippos, Zebras, Giraffes, Leopards, Uganda kobs, Antelopes, waterbucks, warthogs, bush pigs, Hyenas, Jackals and Topis. Lake Mburo National park shelters the highest population of Zebras in Uganda! Your ranger guide will help you on spotting different animals and birds at a distance. Return to the lodge for late breakfast, check out and drive to Kampala for your connecting flight at Entebbe airport
