Aberdare National Park is a splendid Kenya safari park set right in Central region and from Nairobi, it is about 164kms. It was created in 1950 making it one of the oldest protected areas and occupies 766sq.kms featuring a unique landscape characterized by deep V-shaped valleys intersected by waterfalls, streams, rivers, rain-forests; moorland, bamboo forests.

Aberdare is known for its huge profusion of rhinos, reedbucks, bushbucks, stripped jackals, elands, black & white colobus monkeys, elephants, buffaloes etc. It also comes with over 300 birds including bar tailed trogon, moorland francolin, crowned hornbill, African thrush, scarlet tufted malachite, mountain buzzards, silvery cheeked hornbill and more.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Aberdare

Early in the morning, one of our representatives will be at your hotel or lodge or at the airport to warmly welcome you. He will also brief you about what the 7 days Kenya safari, wildlife tour includes and after, begin your 3-4 hours’ drive to Aberdare National Park.

Aberdare National Park was established in 1950 and the main reason for its creation was to protect wildlife and Aberdare mountain range. This National Park straddles at altitudinal range of 2000-4000m.

Aberdare covers 766sq.kms of land area and its landscape is characterized by deep V-shaped valleys, streams, moorland, rain-forest, bamboo forest. The park’s wildlife includes golden cats, elephants, serval cats, lions, bush bucks, leopards, hyenas, bushbucks, warthogs, spotted genet, black and white colobus monkeys, striped jackals and others.

There are more than 300 bird species that makes Aberdare a significant birding spot. They include golden winged sunbird, African thrush, scarlet tufted malachite, silvery cheeked hornbill, Jackson’s francolin, moorland francolin, African goshawk, mountain buzzard and more. These and more will be part of your sightings while on evening/afternoon wildlife viewing in Aberdare National Park.

Day 2: Game drive & drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

Have breakfast early morning, after, embark on game drive for the second time. Enjoy diverse wildlife of Aberdare for 2-3 hours’ and after, leave for Lake Nakuru National Park which is most famous for flamingos.

Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park early and be offered lunch. After lunch, set off for a game drive with possible anima sightings ranging from waterbucks, hippos, black and white rhinos, giraffes, thompson’s gazelles and others.

There are also several birds to keep an eye on while at Lake Nakuru N/Park. They include grey headed woodpeckers, great snipe, Abyssinian thrush, pink flamingos and others. Get back to the lodge to relax, dine and overnight stay.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru-Maasai Mara N/Reserve

Breakfast early morning, after, exit your lodge in Lake Nakuru for 5 hours’ road trip to Maasai Mara National Reserve. Drive via Narok town and get to Masai Mara early for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive and the notable wildlife species to expect to come across include cape buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, hippos and more.

Day 4: Masai Mara (game drive, observe wildebeest migration, bird sighting, cultural tour)

Enjoy a hefty breakfast back in your lodge and after, meet your guide with pack of lunch and plenty of drinking water. Proceed for an early morning guided game drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve. This beautiful nature reserve boasts of a huge concentration of wildlife that range in the rolling plains, hills, acacia woodland and dense thickets of shrubs.

While in your 4×4 vehicle with pop-up roof, the numerous wildlife species to come across include wildebeests, lions, zebras, gazelles, cheetahs, elands, hippos, giraffes, birds, leopards, buffaloes and more.

If you happen to visit Masai Mara from June to September, there is possibility of watching the great wildebeest migration as they cross the Mara river. The wildebeests are accompanied by thousands of gazelles, zebras and other antelopes.

Enjoy a picnic lunch, then proceed to the Mara River which is known for its remarkable view of hippos, crocodiles etc. You may have brief game drive which includes visiting other areas of Masai Mara and later, visit the Maasai village to interact with the Maasai people, learn more about their traditions, cultures and also enjoy the dances, music performance etc.

Day 5: Masai Mara-Lake Naivasha

After breakfast early morning, set off for an early game drive to see predators plus early risers like leopards, lions, cheetahs etc. Later, get back to have breakfast and check out ready to connect to Naivasha 5 hours’ drive.

Lake Naivasha is one of the fresh lakes in Kenya, lying on altitude of 1884m along the great rift valley. It is a great birding destination with over 400 species of birds including jacanas, white fronted bee-eaters, lesser & greater flamingos, great white egrets, saddle billed stork etc.

Get to Naivasha early, have lunch and proceed for an afternoon birding tour in Lake Naivasha. Expect to spot millions of pink greater and lesser flamingos plus other birds such as African spoonbill, grey crested helmeted shrike, red knobbed coot, little grebe etc.

Day 6: Naivasha-Amboseli N/Park

Early morning breakfast be had at the lodge, after, exit Naivasha for about 5 hours’ drive road trip to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli a home to a huge concentration of elephants and jaw-dropping backdrop of snow-capped Kilimanjaro mountain. Upon early arrival, enjoy lunch in the pre-booked lodge and later, end the day with a guided game drive. A game drive at Amboseli includes sighting special species such as elephants in their large herds, cape buffaloes, lions, cheetahs, elands, birds and more.

Day 7: Departure
