Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park
You will be picked up from Entebbe International airport and embark on a whole day drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park home to the endangered primates. The 8-10 hours drive via rolling hills; cattle farms, local communities and towns offer you a pre trekking experience. Have a stop at the Equator for photographs and enroute lunch in Mbarara city. Multiple stops at local markets for muchoma, roasted maize and fresh fruits make this entire journey awesome and enjoyable. You can choose to trek gorillas in any of the four gorilla sectors (Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija & Nkuringo) that make up Bwindi Forest. If time allows you, visit batwa pygmies in the borders of the park to learn the traditions, norms and customs of these indigenous forest people
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking & transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
The long a waited day for gorilla trekking is finally today! Rise up very early; enjoy your spiced cup of coffee and transfer to the respective park headquarters for pre trekking briefing and registration. The briefing is all about what to expect on the trek, what to do, what to avoid and the general conduct while with the endangered species. An hour spent in the company of mountain gorillas is a lifetime experience, which mots people have ranked as the best wildlife experience in the world. Enjoy the human like behaviors of gorillas in their family; see how a silverback guards his entire family just like a father in a human home. Juveniles and blackbucks jump over cross tree branches while the babies are calm at their mum’s backs or in the chest. You are allowed to take pictures of gorillas but at a distance of seven meters to avoid close contact, which can lead to the spread of human wildlife diseases. In the evening, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi also called the “place of many little birds”. The beautiful scenic views of kigezi hills, farms and local communities around Lake Bunyonyi are good for photography.
Day 3: Boat cruising & Departure
Wake up to enjoy the sunrise breakfast at the shores of the Lake Bunyonyi. You will then embark on a boat cruise toe explore the different islands of this Lake. These include Bwama, Bushara, Akampene, Bucuraniko, Njuyeeri and Kyahungye islands. Visit the punishment island where traditional Bakiga girls who could get pregnant before married where taken and left to die alone. Each island has a different story concerning cultural attachments and story of formation. Other interesting activities to do at Lake Bunyonyi include community visit, zip lining, bird watching, swimming, mountain biking, nature walks and sunbathing. You will then check out and embark on a drive back to Kampala for your connecting flight at Entebbe International Airport.
